Water sale in the Warrill Valley

Seqwater has announced the sale of 200 megalitres (ML) of water allocations for use in the Warrill Valley Water Supply Scheme, which is supplied by Moogerah Dam.

Demand for water allocation from industry and irrigators in the Scenic Rim continues to grow.

Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Neil Brennan said Seqwater had been investigating ways to supply additional water to local irrigators and industrial water users within the Warrill Valley Water Supply Scheme (the scheme) and support growth in the region.

“Demand for water allocation from industry and irrigators in the Scenic Rim continues to grow, largely driven by expanding horticultural production and processing,” Mr Brennan said.

“Our team has determined that up to 200ML of water allocations within the scheme can be sold without impacting on local drinking water security.

“The sale will be held via an online auction, which will be open to existing customers in the scheme, as well as new customers.”

The sale will take place in February and March, and will be managed by independent online water broker, Ruralco Water.

Mr Brennan said once the auction is complete, the water allocation(s) will be permanently transferred to the new owner(s).

“Online auctions of water allocations are common practice, but this is the first time Seqwater has announced a sale in the scheme,” Mr Brennan said.

Interested bidders are encouraged to register through Ruralco Water.
