Once complete, the Wyaralong Water Treatment Plant project will connect Wyaralong Dam to the SEQ Water Grid, helping to secure drinking water supplies for one of South East Queensland’s fastest growing regions.
The Wyaralong WTP will treat raw water from Wyaralong Dam via the Logan River, supplying up to around 48 Olympic sized swimming pools of treated drinking water per day to Beaudesert and surrounding communities.
At the height of construction activity, the project could support up to 1,500 direct and indirect jobs.
The project is on track to deliver first water in 2032.
Quotes attributable to Seqwater CEO, Emma Thomas:
Seqwater’s Wyaralong Water Treatment Plant project is a major investment in South East Queensland’s future.
Shortlisting two very experienced consortia Acciona Wyaralong and SJHJV marks an important milestone in progressing our plans to continue delivering a safe and reliable supply of drinking water to the community for generations to come.
Pending project approvals, the Wyaralong Water Treatment Plant could deliver enough drinking water each day to the SEQ Water Grid for up to around 800,000 people or more than 210,000 typical households.
The project will be the largest traditional water treatment plant that Seqwater has constructed in more than 15 years.
More information:
Wyaralong Dam was built in response to the Millennium Drought and completed in 2011. Just 25 days after construction finished, the region received heavy rain and Wyaralong Dam began to fill.
Connecting Wyaralong Dam to the SEQ Water Grid forms part of Seqwater’s Beaudesert Water Supply Upgrade, including the 27-kilomotre South West Pipeline, Wyaralong Water Transfer Station, and two storage reservoirs near the Beaudesert WTP.
