Water safety makes a splash this Easter holidays

Seqwater is urging visitors to stay safe on the water, with South East Queensland’s lakes expected to attract thousands of visitors across the Easter holiday period.

Each year, more than 2.7 million people visit Seqwater’s recreation sites, with the Easter holidays being one of the busiest periods for boating, paddling, swimming and enjoying the great outdoors.

As Queenslanders and visitors alike enjoy water activities and spending quality time with family around Seqwater’s lakes and recreation facilities, Seqwater has six simple tips to stay safe during the school holidays:

  • Always wear the right life jacket
  • Always swim in the designated swimming areas
  • Always keep an eye on your kids
  • Always look out for hidden hazards
  • Always keep a safe distance and speed when on the water
  • Always check the weather and lake conditions before you leave home

Seqwater Executive General Manager for Operations Fiore Zulli said Seqwater’s dedicated rangers will be out patrolling lakes and recreation sites, but it’s important all visitors know the rules at each site and look out for one another.

“The easter long weekend is one of the busiest times at our lakes and recreation sites, and we want everyone to make the most of it safely,” said Mr Zulli.

“Whether you’re boating, paddling or swimming in the designated areas, a few simple precautions will help ensure a fun and incident free weekend for all,” he said.

“Following our six simple safety tips is the best way to make memories and get home safely.”
