Seqwater opens 'Sippidy-do-bar' for Ekka

Parched Ekka goers will be able to quench their thirst at a world-first “Sippidy do bar’’ at this year’s EKKA.

Seqwater will be serving 'Iced Teasal' and 'Saltless Sparking Seawater’ made from desalinated water to make learning about the region’s water supply an entertaining experience for Ekka visitors.

The ‘’Sippidy-doo-bar’ will serve a variety of flavoured iced teas and sparkling water made from water supplied from the Gold Coast Desalination Plant.

Seqwater Chief Executive Officer Neil Brennan said the bar made for a great conversation starter about how water is delivered today and the challenges of climate change and population growth on future water planning.

“It’s all part of Seqwater’s water future community education and engagement program to help develop the long-term water supply plan for south east Queensland,” Mr Brennan said.

“The SEQ Water Grid, including the Gold Coast Desalination Plant and Western Corridor Recycled Water Scheme, has provided SEQ with more of Australia’s most secure water supplies.

“We want the community we serve involved in our planning which is why opportunities like the EKKA are so important.

“We hope to see as many people we can coming through our stand and hopefully walking away with a better understanding of how their water is delivered today and how they can have their say in our planning for tomorrow.’’

More than178,000 people visited Seqwater’s EKKA display last year.

Other attractions at the stand will include Queensland Urban Utilities' bathroom karaoke stage with a list of ‘Bathroom Beats’ songs that run no longer than four minutes to encourage people to be waterwise in the shower.

Free refill stations will again feature as will a giant augmented reality sandpit educating kids with a simulation of what a drought would look like across south east Queensland.

The Seqwater stand is located at the Agriculture Pavilion, opposite the Woolworths Pavilion and under the Royal Convention Centre.

The Ekka, now in its 142nd year, kicks off Friday 9 August and wraps up Sunday 18 August.
