About us

Water for a thriving South East Queensland

Water is essential to everything that makes South East Queensland a great place to live, work and grow.

At Seqwater, we make sure our region has the water it needs to thrive. We source, store, treat and supply safe, reliable drinking water to around 4 million people across South East Queensland, working with our water service provide partners Urban Utilities, Unitywater, Logan Water, Redland City Council and City of Gold Coast – who deliver this water to homes and businesses.

But our role goes beyond drinking water.

We supply water to irrigators, commercial users and industries that keep our region moving. We manage dams, lakes, catchments and recreational areas that are part of the fabric of South East Queensland – places where people work, play, connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors.

As a Queensland Government statutory authority, we manage one of Australia’s largest and most geographically diverse water businesses. Our network stretches from Gympie to the Gold Coast, west to the Lockyer Valley and across to the Redlands.

Every day, we work to keep water flowing today while planning for the needs of tomorrow.

Because water security is about more than water. It’s about giving South East Queensland the confidence to grow, adapt and prosper - supporting thriving communities, a strong economy and a confident future for generations to come.

What we do

  • Supply safe and clean bulk drinking water through the SEQ Water Grid - a connected network of dams, pipelines, and treatment plants - to more than 3.8 million people
  • Manage dams and weirs to provide water storage, flood mitigation, and recreation – the catchments cover 1.2 million hectares of land
  • Care and protect more than 65,000 hectares of land around our catchments for lakes and recreational areas, contributing more than 50% of green space in SEQ outside of national parks
  • Manage 57 recreational areas that attract more than 2.7 million visitors every year for trail walks, camping, fishing and boating
  • Operate water treatment plants to ensure high-quality, safe drinking water that meets Australian Drinking Water Guidelines
  • Plan for water security with long-term strategies to meet the needs of a growing population
  • Respond to drought or reduced water supply with flexible infrastructure like the Gold Coast Desalination Plant and recycled water schemes
