The way we work
Water gives and sustains life, and helps to create prosperity. It’s a vital service that we deliver to more than 3.2 million people in South East Queensland.
Seqwater is one of Australia’s largest water businesses with the most geographically spread and diverse asset base of any capital city water authority. Our operations extend from the New South Wales border to the base of the Toowoomba ranges and north to Gympie.
We manage up to $11 billion of water supply assets - including the SEQ Water Grid- and the natural catchments of the region’s major water supply sources. This includes dams, weirs, conventional water treatment plants and climate resilient sources of water through the Gold Coast Desalination Plant and the Western Corridor Recycled Water Scheme. A 600 kilometre reverse flow pipeline network enables drinking water to be transported around the region, from the Sunshine Coast to Greater Brisbane, to Redlands and south to the Gold Coast.
Seqwater also manages recreation facilities at our dams, lakes and parks that provide more than 50% of the green space in SEQ outside of national parks.
We live and work in the region, so we know how important it is to do our job with a focus on safety, quality, reliability and value-for-money – because we depend on it too. South East Queensland is our home and we are determined to shape and deliver the region’s future prosperity.
Seqwater was formed on 1 January 2013 through a merger of three State-owned water businesses, the SEQ Water Grid Manager, LinkWater and the former Seqwater. We also assumed some responsibilities undertaken by the former Queensland Water Commission, such as the long term planning of the region's future water needs.
We are one of Australia’s largest water businesses with the most geographically spread and diverse asset base of any capital city water authority. Our operations extend from the New South Wales border to the base of the Toowoomba ranges and north to Gympie, and we work in some of the most beautiful parts of our region.
As a regional water business, our corporate headquarters is in the first 5-Star Green Star rated building in the growing community of Ipswich. It houses most of our employees, and is a statement of our commitment to the environment.
We live and work in the region, so we know how important it is to do our job with a focus on safety, quality, reliability and value-for-money, because we depend on it too. South East Queensland is our home and we are determined to deliver on our Water for life vision.
If you feel you can live these values and are looking for an extraordinary career in which you can make a real impact, we’d love to talk to you.
Connecting with our communities
Our communities are at the heart of what we do. We engage our neighbours and communities across all aspects of our work, from planning to project delivery, to community consultation and broad scale community education campaigns. We seek to listen and understand community needs, proactively share information about our role and work, build community knowledge of the water cycle and the SEQ Water Grid, identify and resolve issues and deliver on our promises.
Seqwater is committed to engaging with South East Queensland communities to achieve the best outcomes for our region.
Partnering to deliver quality water supply
Our partners play an important role in helping us protect and improve local rivers and creeks. We support a broad range of educational, environmental and community initiatives.
As the region’s bulk water supply authority, we are committed to our vision of Water for life. Our service extends beyond water supply, to supporting a sustainable water future for generations to come. We recognise the importance of getting people involved in their water supply through education and local projects to achieve our vision.
Innovation and improvement through Research and Development
Seqwater has a strong research and development focus, working to continually improve our practices and processes through innovation. We have built strong relationships with the research sector and undertake research in partnership with universities and other entities
SEQ Water Service Providers Partnership
Working with South East Queensland water retailers and councils to optimise our performance and efficiency of the region’s water assets is central to our business.
To help drive improved performance, we established the South East Queensland Water Service Providers Partnership between Seqwater and the region’s five water retailers.
Seqwater also has a strong research and development focus with partnerships with The University of Queensland and Griffith University.
We are proud of the initiatives that we have been associated with to date and know that each has played an important role in supporting our community and customers.
