Upcoming ecology and geotechnical investigations
To progress planning and approvals for the project, we’ll be conducting various investigations along New Beith Road, Whittling Court and adjacent to several streets in the Flagstone area. The investigations will involve:
- Geotechnical investigations to determine soil and rock type and strength, including:
- Collection of soil samples
- Drilling boreholes using a small truck-mounted drill rig
- Excavation of test pits using a small excavator
- Ecological investigations within the road reserve, bushland and creek corridors, including:
- Walkover surveys
- Installation of remote cameras and spotlighting
- Water sampling
- Placement of small air-DNA filters in roadside trees
- Use of wildlife detection dogs.
The investigations will commence on 23 March and be completed over an 8-week period (weather and conditions permitting), with the majority taking place between the hours of 7am and 5pm and some non-intrusive night works between the hours of 5pm and 9pm.
What can I expect?
- Investigations primarily within the public road reserve and publicly accessible land.
- Small teams of 2 to 4 personnel, travelling between sites in 4WD vehicles.
- Temporary traffic management where works are undertaken close to the road.
- A small drill rig and excavator operating at some locations.
- Intermittent localised noise and vibration.
- Small boreholes and test pits temporarily created and reinstated following completion of works.
- Non-intrusive night surveys involving cameras and spotlighting only (checking for presence of wildlife).
Upcoming community engagement
Seqwater’s Engagement Team will be undertaking community engagement, consisting of doorknocks with landowners along New Beith Road and Teviot Road, between Homestead Drive and Stoney Camp Road. Our team would like to engage with the community to:
- Share information about the project and additional infrastructure.
- Listen to any questions, concerns or feedback you may have.
- Record your preferences for how and when we can best engage with you in the future.
We welcome the opportunity to speak with you during this time. If you would prefer to arrange a specific time for us to visit, or if you would like to raise any questions in advance, please contact us at [email protected] or 07 3432 7000 (during business hours).
