Today's water quality testing is showing higher than usual levels of Geosmin, around the untreated water near Lake Manchester (Cabbage Tree Creek).
Geosmin, a naturally occurring organic compound is known to create an earthy taste and smell in drinking water. Geosmin is not harmful to health and the water remains safe to drink, but it can affect the taste and odour of drinking water, particularly for people with sensitive taste buds.
Our water treatment teams are monitoring the levels closely and will be working to reduce these impacts to our drinking water.
Residents do not need to boil water or take other safety precautions.
If you are particularly sensitive to taste and smell changes in water, a household filter, adding citrus or chilling the water may help reduce the earthy notes.
