Mobile app privacy policy
Seqwater's mobile app privacy policy tells you how we collect, use and disclose your personal information, and how you can ask for access to it or seek correction of it. It also contains information about how you can make a complaint and how we will deal with such a complaint.
Legal obligations
Seqwater handles personal information in compliance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act) and the Information Privacy Principles (IPPs).
What personal information does the mobile app collect and hold?
The Seqwater mobile app collects and holds the following personal information when users download the app, and subscribe to our dam release notification service or recreation and safety updates.
- First and Last Name
- Email Address
- Mobile Number
- Desired Password
- User's location (GPS coordinates), collected at a frequency that is configurable by the user. This is a separate 'opt-in' feature
- Communication preferences: user selects which dam alerts and safety notices that they wish to receive.
Purposes of collection
The mobile app collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information for the following purposes:
- to confirm your identity when you contact us
- to manage your requests, enquiries or complaints
- to provide our products and services to you
- to comply with the law.
Third party
The Seqwater app uses a third party service, Early Warning Network (EWN) geographic notification and information system (GNIS) to manage, and issue, push notifications about dam releases and recreation and safety notices.
On our behalf, EWN collects your personal information and provide it to us at your request to provide you with important safety updates. Your personal information may also be provided to Disaster Management Groups, local councils and other third parties (including service providers) in connection with this purpose. Your personal information will not be used for any other purpose in line with our Privacy Policy.
Access to and amendment of your personal information
We take steps to ensure that the personal information we collect, use and disclose is accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
You have the right to access and correct the personal information we hold about you. To do this, please visit the Right to Information page on the Seqwater website.
Location services
It is important that your phone has location services switched on when your register the app, otherwise Seqwater or EWN cannot send you emergency alerts relevant to your location.
For Android:
- Go to Settings
- Click on Location
- Tick either "Google locations services" or "GPS satellites". The GPS option uses more battery power but is more reliable in rural areas.
For iPhone / iPad (iOS6 & iOS7)
- Click the "Settings" icon, then click "Privacy" then "Location Services"
- Ensure location services at the top of the screen is turned on
- Ensure Seqwater in the list for location services is turned on.
The app's use of location services is an important feature to keeping our visitors safe during emergency situations. Users can opt in and enable this feature to allow us to send real-time emergency alerts and notifications to app users based on their location.
Complaints
If you feel that we have not met our obligations in how we handle your personal information, you have the right to make a complaint to us. See the ‘Contact Us’ section, below.
We will:
- keep a record of your complaint;
- write to you to acknowledge your complaint;
- investigate your complaint (including, for example, gathering the relevant facts, locating and reviewing relevant documents and speaking to relevant individuals); and
- write to you with our final response, including our view on whether we have not complied with this policy or relevant privacy laws, and what we will do to fix the issue.
In most cases, we’ll give you a final response within 45 calendar days of receiving your complaint. If we can’t give you a response within this time, we’ll contact you to tell you why, and work out a new timeframe with you.
