Our environmental performance
From caring for catchments and protecting wildlife to managing environmental risks from our operations and major infrastructure projects, Seqwater has a team of dedicated environment specialists that help us understand, minimise and manage our impact on the environment as well as building environment capability more broadly across all roles in our organisation.
Their work includes monitoring water quality and ecosystems, managing vegetation, weeds and pests, protecting threatened species, supporting fire management, assessing environmental risks, managing regulatory approvals and responding to environmental incidents.
Environmental events
We record an environmental event when an activity causes, or has the potential to cause, environmental harm. Some environmental events must also be reported to regulators when they meet specific regulatory requirements.
A notifiable incident is an environmental event that meets these reporting requirements. This includes events involving actual or potential material or serious environmental harm, or non-compliance with a condition of an environmental authority, licence or approval.
Where required, Seqwater reports notifiable incidents to the Queensland Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI).
Notifiable incidents
The table below shows the number of notifiable environmental incidents recorded by Seqwater over the past two financial years.
In 2025/26, Seqwater recorded 22 notifiable incidents, down from 37 in 2024/25.
Importantly, none of the incidents recorded during these two financial years were assessed as causing material or serious environmental harm.

Most notifiable incidents involved minor exceedances of licensed release limits, including for suspended solids, chlorine or pH. These incidents occurred primarily during periods of wet weather.
Seqwater continues to monitor its environmental performance and invest in maintaining and upgrading its assets to reduce environmental risks and support compliance with our environmental obligations.
