Camping is a popular activity at many of our lakes across South East Queensland. To avoid disappointment, please book early as spots can be limited, especially during peak periods.
Camping is only permitted in designated camping areas and camp grounds. Seqwater manages the camp grounds at Wyaralong Dam. Camping at Lake Manchester is managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife. All other camp grounds are privately operated, as detailed below.
Seqwater manages the following three camping areas at Wyaralong Dam:
The Eastern Trailhead
The Eastern Trailhead is located near the dam wall. You can view the wall from the viewing platform, explore the shoreline or ride the mountain bike trails. A multi-use (pedestrian, mountain bike and horse) trail ventures west from the Eastern Trailhead.
There are no camping fees at the Eastern Trailhead designated sites. Camp site allocation is on a first-in first-served basis. The maximum permitted stay is seven nights.
The Mt Joyce Base Camp
The Mt Joyce Base camp site is in the centre of the park and includes open camping areas, a toilet, a simple shelter shed and water tanks. Walking enthusiasts and trail runners will find this site useful as a base before summiting Mt Joyce. The camp site is remote, without vehicular access but can be accessed via the lake.
There are no camping fees at Base Camp site. Camp site allocation is on a first-in first-served basis. The maximum permitted stay is seven nights.
The Western Trailhead (also known as Lilybrook)
Lillybrook caters primarily for horse enthusiasts with holding paddocks, watering areas and loading ramps. Camping facilities are available for event use only and include a cleared area suitable for large groups. Toilets, showers, picnic tables and a shelter are available on site.
Queensland Parks and Wildlife manages the Blue Gum Flat camp site at Lake Manchester, along with other camp grounds in the neighbouring D’Aguilar Range National Park. Please visit the Parks and Wildlife website for details.
