WATER SUPPLY UPDATE, SCENIC RIM – CONSERVE WATER REQUEST REMAINS ACTIVE

Seqwater and Urban Utilities are continuing to ask the communities of Beaudesert, Kooralbyn, Rathdowney and Canungra to conserve water.

As Seqwater and Urban Utilities continue to work to restore normal operations to water assets in the Scenic Rim affected by recent storms, including working with Energex to restore power, residents in these areas are being asked to continue reducing their water use where possible.

On 25 and 26 December 2023, severe weather systems across the Scenic Rim and Gold Coast region caused widespread power outages and localised flooding that impacted Seqwater water treatment plants and Urban Utilities water supply infrastructure.

Since this time, Seqwater and Urban Utilities has been working with Energex to see power restored as soon as possible and return local reservoir levels to their normal operating levels. While some local water treatment plants are back online, they are operating at a reduced capacity due to high turbidity in the raw water and intermittent power availability.

As such the conserve water request remains active for Beaudesert, Kooralbyn, Rathdowney and Canungra.

We recognise the impact this extreme weather event is having on many communities and we urge everyone to take care and follow the advice of authorities during this period.

We thank the community for their understanding during this time.
