Sideling Creek Dam, also known as Lake Kurwongbah, is built on a tributary of the Pine River and is part of South East Queensland’s drinking water supply.

It is an un-gated dam, meaning that when it reaches 100 per cent capacity, water flows over the spillway and safely out of the dam. If you would like to be notified when Sideling Creek Dam begins to spill, please sign up to our free dam release notification service.

The surrounding environment and recreation facilities available make Lake Kurwongbah are popular for a variety of activities. Download the Lake Kurwongbah Recreation Guide for more information.

The shared recreation arrangement at Lake Kurwongbah introduced in June 2015 will ceased at 6:30pm on Friday 1 December 2017.

Recreation changes at Lake Kurwongbah

As of Saturday 2 December 2017, paddlers and skiers will be given access to the lake every day of the week and the previous shared days arrangement will cease.

There will be separate zones on the lake: an area for skiing and an area for paddling. Club rowing will also continue on the designated rowing course.

An additional paddle craft wash down facility and launch point have also been established and designated at Mick Hanfling Park. All recreation users are required to wash their water craft to help prevent the spread of aquatic weeds.

Dam Improvement Program

Dams are long-life assets and require continued assessment, monitoring and maintenance.

In 2012-13, we commissioned an independent review of our 26 regulated dams, which found improvements are needed at a number of these dams to meet Queensland dam safety guidelines into the future.

In 2018-19, Seqwater will be upgrading Sideling Creek Dam, as part of the Dam Improvement Program. Sideling Creek Dam is one of five dams across the region identified for upgrade in the next 5-6 years.
