Seqwater Projects

Seqwater is constantly preparing for future demand, and improving the performance and quality of the region’s water storage and treatment facilities.

A series of major projects underway at the moment will increase storage capacity, improve water treatment and deliver water fluoridation services across the region. They include:

Ewen Maddock advanced water treatment plant

Construction of a new $40 million advanced water treatment facility at the Ewen Maddock Dam on the Sunshine Coast is nearing completion.

When completed, the facility will increase treatment capacity and provide additional supply for Caloundra and southern parts of the Sunshine Coast.

Treated water from Ewen Maddock Dam will be delivered to the SEQ Water Grid via the Northern Pipeline inter-connector.

Fluoride program implementation

In early 2008, the Queensland Government announced a program of works to fluoridate the State’s water supplies between 2008 and 2012.

Under the leadership of the Department of Infrastructure and Planning, Seqwater is managing the design and construction of 27 fluoridation dosing facilities across South East Queensland.

When completed Seqwater will manage the ongoing operation of these facilities as part of the normal water treatment process.

Stage 1 of the project was completed in December 2008, with Seqwater installing fluoride dosing facilities at the region’s five major water treatment facilities of Mt Crosby and North Pine serving Greater Brisbane, Landers Shute on the Sunshine Coast and Molendinar and Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast.

Stage 2 of the project will see Seqwater install fluoride dosing units at the remaining water treatment facilities across south east Queensland.

Hinze Dam upgrade

The Hinze Dam and the upstream Little Nerang Dam currently have a total storage capacity of 169,000 megalitres. A major infrastructure project to raise the Hinze Dam wall will almost double this capacity and significantly improve flood mitigation in the lower Nerang river catchment.

 

Construction is being managed by the Hinze Dam Alliance, which comprises Seqwater and three private sector partners, Sinclair Knight Merz, Thiess Pty Ltd, and URS.
