Seqwater has begun its search for a new campground operator to take on the management of camping grounds located at two of South East Queensland’s most popular lakes.
The bulk water authority is seeking tenders to manage Logan’s Complex at Wivenhoe Dam and / or Somerset Park Camp Ground.
Seqwater Acting Chief Executive Officer Daniel Spiller said Wivenhoe and Somerset were two of the region’s most visited recreation destinations, with a wide variety of activities and facilities available.
“Almost 2.6 million people visited our lake recreational areas last year, with opportunities for tourists and locals to enjoy camping, fishing, water sports or the scenic beauty of the area,” Mr Spiller said.
“There is ongoing public demand for the use of lakes and the surrounding land for recreation – and this demand is increasing as the South East Queensland population continues to escalate.
“The location of these campgrounds and the tourism opportunities available should make this a competitive and sought after tender among campground operators.”
Logan’s Complex, located off the Brisbane Valley Highway upstream of Wivenhoe Dam, consists of two campgrounds – Captain Logan and Lumley Hill campgrounds.
Somerset Park Camp Grounds is located on Esk-Kilcoy Rd, downstream from Somerset Dam.
Tenderers can apply for management of one or both of the camping grounds. The deadline for tender submissions is 9 January 2017, with the successful operator to assume management from February 2017.
