Adding a splash of colour to the Green Hill Reservoirs

Note: The themed concept designs show only a small section of the Green Hill Reservoir walls. The reservoirs offer a canvas of about about 830 metres of wall space to incorporate a lot more colourful art.

Green Hill Reservoirs community artwork

We're painting a mural on the concrete walls of Seqwater's largest bulk water supply reservoirs, to create a more beautiful space for the community to enjoy.

But before we start painting, we're putting the artwork design out to a community vote.

Year 7 art extension students (Arts XLR8) from Indooroopilly State High School worked with street artists from Street Art Murals Australia (SAMA) to create design concepts based three themes - Water for life, Nature around us and Urban habitat.

The design concepts are now available for public voting until 29 May 2017.  The concept with the most votes will start taking shape at the Green Hill Reservoirs in early June.

  • Voting opens: 8am, Tuesday 16 May 2017
  • Voting closes: 5pm, Monday 29 May 2017
  • Winning concepts announced: Tuesday 30 May 2017
  • Painting project starts: early June

About the Green Hill Reservoirs

The Green Hill Reservoirs, just off Russell Terrace in Chapel Hill, are an important part of the SEQ Water Grid supplying bulk drinking water to parts of Brisbane and the Moreton Bay region.

Reservoir 1, built in 1968, is located at the southern end of the grounds and has a capacity of 76.1 megalitres (ML). Reservoir 2, built in 1984, is located at the northern end and can hold 76.4ML.

The area around the reservoirs is open to the public for recreation and while we want the community to continue to enjoy the area, unfortunately there has been an increase in vandalism at the site.

Throughout Queensland, artwork has been used in built environments to create safer places for the community to enjoy.

If you would like more information about this project, email the Seqwater Community Relations team at communications@seqwater.com.au or call 1800 901 570.

As our neighbour, the best thing you can do to help reduce vandalism at the Green Hill Reservoirs is to report it to us on 1800 771 497.or call Policelink on 131 444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
